Sacred Heart School

“We pride ourselves in being a high-tech school with all students receiving an iPad to use for the entire year in grades five through eight,” Candace affirmed. “They can even take it home for homework. And all classrooms are outfitted with Smart Boards.”

In today’s fast paced world, molding young minds is becoming more and more challenging. Sacred Heart School is meeting this challenge and raising the bar even higher. With the tag line of: Prepare them for life * Prepare them for college * Prepare them for Heaven, how can anyone fault this historic institution?

The school is located in Sacred Heart Parish, the second oldest parish in the Diocese of Palm Beach. It was founded by the Jesuits almost 100 years ago, in 1926, and in 1944 the Sisters of St. Joseph founded Sacred Heart School.

“This year we celebrate our 70th anniversary, and among our illustrious alums is Archbishop Thomas Wenski, the current Archbishop of the Miami Diocese; four generations of Wenskis have graduated from Sacred Heart,” noted Candace Tamposi, principal. “Currently with a full enrollment, Sacred Heart prides itself on its William B. Finneran Montessori Academy, which recently received a rating of Excellent from the State Voluntary Prekindergarten Education program, with our graduates scoring highest in the state.”

Candace beams with pride when discussing the milestones her school has accomplished through the generations of bright minds they have educated. Sacred Heart School is accredited by the Florida Catholic Conference. The accreditation program provides a systematic process of school improvement through the application of educational standards or criteria.

“Our new Gifted Student Tech Based Program, presented by Stanford University, allows gifted students to be challenged and to think outside the box through the Odyssey of the Mind Program or the Invention Convention,” she continued. Other recent programs of excellence include a state-of-the-art music program, the culmination of which is the Ali Tamposi Recording studio donated by a Grammy®-nominated alumna. “Each year the students from the symphonic, jazz, steel drum and choir record a Christmas and spring album in the studio.”

“We pride ourselves in being a high-tech school with all students receiving an iPad to use for the entire year in grades five through eight,” Candace affirmed. “They can even take it home for homework. And all classrooms are outfitted with Smart Boards. Students choose from 30 languages to study in our Rosetta Stone Language Lab.” Sacred Heart School’s competitive sports programs, including basketball, soccer, baseball, softball and cheerleading, will soon be housed in a newly designed and approved Sports Pavilion that will be completed in the spring of 2015.

And the most exciting addition is the Science Technology Engineering and Math Program, STEM, which is a certified national program developed by Carolina Biological Supply Company in conjunction with the Smithsonian Science Education Center. Sacred Heart is the only Diocesan school to become a STEM school. In the STEM Lab, students in grades three through eight build engines, robot prototypes and bridges. Then, as entrepreneurs, they study price points and how to create a less expensive product with a better margin of profit. This innovative STEM program prepares students for an increasingly technical job market by training them to be young entrepreneurs.

“Second graders study the life cycle of a butterfly from a caterpillar to a chrysalis, and then the children release the hatched butterflies in our butterfly garden,” Candace smiled. “The wonderful highlight is the ZSpace Display, a three-dimensional computer that through holograms allows students to dissect a living frog or hold a human heart in their hands to feel it beat.”

The Cathleen McFarlane Ross Academy of Inclusion is a very effective way to reach those children with learning differences, including Asperger’s syndrome and autism. This specialized division of Sacred Heart School exemplifies the mission and ministry of its roots.

With an attitude of respect and forward thinking values, the staff of this historic, loving school is sure to keep preparing the young minds in our community for life, college and Heaven.
