Summer Self Care—For Me!

By  0 Comments

I am putting it on my to-do list this summer. I know, it sounds really crazy, right?

First of all, as a mom to three children, nine, seven and three, does self-care really exist in my world? If I am being honest with myself, the answer is, yes, it should. If I am being really, really honest, do I ever put this on my to-do list for myself? The answer is no.

If your summers are like mine, they are certainly a bit more relaxed than the school year, but there is still so much going during summer break.

Juggling summer camps and softball lead our summer plans. I can tell you when and where we need to be each day and night, along with who has an upcoming special activity or event. There is my never-ending mental list of things to take care of, and I am rarely, if ever, one of the things to tackle for the week ahead.

I do know how important it is to take time for myself, even if it’s just a moment, but in reality, it just never seems to happen. I guess I could make some lofty goal to take some “me time” away from my kids. Maybe take up a special yoga class or book a spa day away. Those things are nice and so wonderful when they do happen, but this summer I think my goal for summer self-care for myself will be more simple.

Take deep breaths. Soak in the moments. Enjoy the sunsets. Splurge on ice cream evenings with the kids—and really be present in all the little moments this summer.

Sometimes I look back at my Instagram posts and stories and reflect on how lucky I am. I see all the moments and videos I have posted, and I really appreciate them even more after they happen.

My goal this summer is to be more present, for myself and my mental health and happiness. Not to appreciate the moments more after I post them on Facebook or Instagram, but in the moments as they happen each day.

Enjoy the rest of your summer, all my fellow moms; school is right around the
corner now!
