House and Home

Home decorating just isn’t my thing.

I will be the first to admit, if I’m going to spend money on anything, home décor usually falls to the bottom of my list.

I am always so impressed when I visit friends’ and families’ homes that are so perfectly decorated. How do they do that? Many look like one of those sparkling homes just completed on an episode of Fixer Upper. How does Joanna Gaines know what to buy and how to coordinate it all into this perfectly imperfect decorated home? It’s truly an art form and skill set that I just don’t have.

Truth be told, I see all the fun décor stuff at my second home, also known as Target. But even looking at it all perfectly displayed, ready to buy, gives me anxiety. Where do I start? From pillows to picture art, it all overwhelms me.

In true parent form, my kids have better furniture in their rooms than my husband and I do in ours. It’s not a complaint; it’s just a fact.

Sometimes I do get inspired and really think that I will try something new at my home one of these days. But then real life just seems to get in the way. The good news is, it’s not really important to me what my home looks like on the inside or how it’s decorated. Most days if the dishes are done and the crumbs are vacuumed from underneath my kitchen table, I consider that a success. Our house is a home because of the people inside it, and although it might be nice one day to have a home decorated like a finished house on Fixer Upper, until then I just count my blessings for the healthy and happy people inside our four undecorated walls.
