Erin Work + Erin Mom = My Fashion Divide

By  0 Comments

That sums up my life during the work week. I have two very specific attires each day; the first is work mode Erin in my business clothes. The second is undoubtably my favorite—my mom mode attire.

Don’t get me wrong; it’s fun to dress up and have a full face of makeup and hair done, but I don’t consider the TV-camera-ready Erin to be the real me. I wake up in the middle of the night, head into work, forecast the weather, and then turn into a magician. By 4:30 a.m. each day you see me with curled hair, fresh makeup and usually a fun dress on, ready to help you and your family plan for the day ahead at KCTV5. And yes, it’s all me. I am the magician. Love it or hate it, I do all my own hair, makeup and fashion choices each day.

But that’s just the first eight hours of my day. Once my work day ends, I quickly swap back to the real me, also known as my mom mode attire. Depending on the season, my mom mode attire usually consists of yoga pants, a warm sweatshirt and the most comfortable shoes I can find. I am guessing that some of you reading right now might do the same. You may not get up as early as I do, but the switch to mom mode clothes is on right after work. Comfort rules my fashion choices as the evening juggle of dinner, kids’ sports and bath and bedtime duties go by in a flash.

I can’t say that I have the most fashionable or trendy clothes, but I can say that I do feel more comfortable in my own skin no matter what I’m wearing compared to years past. I suppose that comes with age. As a mom you realize very quickly that there is so much that is out of your control. That includes all the body changes during pregnancy (and after) along with trying to keep a clean outfit while eating dinner next to a toddler. There is no doubt that my children’s outfits are often more fashionable than mine and I am okay with that. It’s all about balance and we are all just doing the best we can.

Meteorologist Erin Little starts your day off with a smile and the forecast each morning on KCTV5 News This Morning.
