Jamie and Tyler Tied The Knot!

Jamie (Johnson) Newton, 28, is a graduate of Kansas State University and earned her degree in nursing at William Jewell College. Jamie is a nurse in the Pediatric ICU at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.

Tyler Newton, 30, is also a graduate of Kansas State University and earned a doctorate in physical therapy from Rockhurst University. Tyler works at Kansas City Sports Rehab in Overland Park, Kansas. Jamie and Tyler are avid travelers and passionate about food, music and the both the Royals and the Chiefs. They live in Olathe, Kansas with their mini dachshund, Wally.

Jamie and Tyler met through mutual friends at KSU and then tended bar together at Tubby’s Sports Bar in Manhattan, Kansas. “Ty was one year ahead of me in school and he always went out his way to help me with classes he had already taken,” Jamie smiles.

Tyler proposed on January 31, Jamie’s mom’s birthday. “It was a complete blizzard and he drove me down to the Plaza to Kona Grill, our first date spot.” Jamie remembers. “On the walk back to the car after dinner he pulled me onto the bridge crossing Brush Creek in front of the Intercontinental and proposed. Afterwards he asked me to have one drink with him before we called our parents, so he took me to Brio where he had arranged for a private room and surprised me with an engagement party. All of our friends and family were there, including his brother and sister-in-law, who had flown in from Chicago.”

The blissful couple tied the knot on June 20, 2015. The wedding party included seven bridesmaids, eight groomsmen and two ushers. Jamie’s Maid of Honor was Nicole, a sorority sister from college. The complement of bridesmaids was Jamie’s two sisters-in-law and other sorority sisters. Tyler’s brothers, Jesse and Andy Newton, were the Best Men. Jamie’s brother and Tyler’s fraternity brothers were the rest of the groomsmen and ushers.

After a lovely rehearsal dinner at Californos in Westport, Jamie and the bridesmaids spent the night at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown and Tyler stayed at the couple’s home with his brothers. The girls enjoyed their time together dressing, while the guys went for professional shaves at Plaza Hair Design.

“Tyler and I had our first look next to an ivy-covered wall behind the Marriott,” smiles Jamie. “Then the bridal party boarded a bus for photos on the front lawn of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. It was so special to be married by Tyler’s uncle Fitz, and the courtyard of The Guild was a perfect setting. The food provided by Joe’s KC Barbecue was the best, and Cashmere Popcorn’s popcorn bar, with flavors including peanut butter cup, jalapeno cheddar, and cinnamon crunch, was a hit. My mom also made four different types of cake balls as party favors, and the guests loved them. The day was all we could have wanted it to be!”

Jamie and Tyler honeymooned on St. Lucia, and relaxed in an all-inclusive resort, enjoying the island’s beautiful mountains, lush foliage, and the pristine beaches and water. HLM
