Emily & Lance

Emily (McMahill) Lewis, 28, grew up in Blue Springs, Missouri, and went to Blue Springs High School. She attended Missouri State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in marketing. She also played handball at Missouri State, playing on two national championship teams. Emily is the marketing director for The Vein Doctor. She and Lance just bought their first house and live in Blue Springs, Missouri.

Lance Lewis, 27, grew up in Independence, Missouri, and attended Fort Osage High School. Lance was a three-sport athlete – track, basketball and football. A compound fracture his senior year ended his scholastic sports career, but pushed him more towards his passion, overall fitness. He earned a bachelor’s degree in corporate fitness from the University of Central Missouri. Now he and Emily lead a much healthier, skinnier life. Since meeting the couple loves to eat healthy, workout and travel as much as possible.

“I met Lance when my mom introduced us at Marshalls,” Emily smiles. “Lance had been in her fifth-grade class years before, and when she saw him that day she knew we would be perfect. She was right, and we haven’t gone a day without talking since!”

Lance thoughtfully prepared for his proposal to Emily. “It was a Tuesday night; after we got home from the gym we decided to go on a walk around a lake near our house,” she shares. “He had been messing with me about proposing for a few weeks and that night he did as well. As we sat on a bench and watched the sunset, Lance said, ‘Wouldn’t this be a nice spot to propose?’ I replied, ‘Yes, it would be, but you won’t, so stop messing with me.’ We started walking back to our car and heard music playing. Lance twirled me and mid-twirl he got on one knee and proposed. I was shocked and said, ‘Are you serious? YES!’ We then walked back near a tree where he had hidden a flower, a note and a Coke can that said Soul Mate on it earlier that day. It was absolutely perfect!”

The blissful couple tied the knot on July 11, 2015. Emily’s life-long best friend, Whitney Davison, served as Matron of Honor, and bridesmaids were four friends with whom she has shared significant life events: Amanda Swanson, Kimberly Poffinbarger, Alyssa Rand and Lauren Nash. Lance’s older brother, Lucas Lewis, served as Best Man; groomsmen were Todd McMahill, the bride’s younger brother, and Lance’s life-long friends Dakota Smith, Tim Austerman and Maurice Pearl.

Since the wedding was on 7/11/15, the bridal couple went to 7/11 after the ceremony, got their free Slurpees and took some photos. There was even a Slurpee machine at the reception! The ceremony was held in Lance’s family church to represent something from his childhood, and the reception was in Blue Springs to represent something from Emily’s childhood. The couple thanks their parents, Ron and Barb McMahill and Larry and Kim Lewis for giving them the wedding of their dreams.

“We wanted to have the honeymoon of a lifetime and go somewhere neither of us had been,” reveals Emily. “We started saving the day we got engaged and it was well worth it! We went on an amazing Mediterranean cruise that went to Barcelona, Spain; Toulon, France; Pisa, Florence, Rome, Naples and Venice, Italy; Mykonos and Athens, Greece; and Ephesus and Istanbul, Turkey.”
