It began nearly 25 years ago as a hair salon for family members of the Kansas City Royals. Janeane Saberhagen, former wife of pitcher Bret Saberhagen, who played during 1984 to 1991 for the team, opened Rumors salon with eight chairs, catering to this group. We’re definitely a color salon. We’re known for it, love doing it and can do any type of process,” stated Andrea. “But we also focus on skin care. When it comes to skin care products, Rumors offers Dermalogica, a line free of common irritants and ingredients, focused on improving skin health. “It’s been around a long time. It’s a great product, but it’s not fancy,” she shared. “The product line has everything you need without being overpriced because of packaging. It’s a great line for aging skin.” She also points out that Rumors features spray tanning for those desiring a nice glow for special events or everyday wear. A full body spray is priced at a very competitive $40.

As for the hair, Andrea and her staff use the Wella color line because of its diversity. “It’s not just a pick and pull and put a product on somebody’s hair. Wella allows you to tailor the color to meet their needs,” she commented. “At Rumors, we’re here for the client. We want to give you what you want, not what we think you need. We love color; it’s our favorite thing to do.”

While client satisfaction is supreme at Rumors, Andrea also focuses on continuing education for her stylists. Master stylists from around the country are brought into the salon four times a year to teach the latest techniques.
