Homestead on the Hill and Hope for Justice Partner to End Human Trafficking

By  0 Comments

Homestead on the Hill champions their YL team and community to raise awareness and funds for Hope for Justice, an organization that seeks to end human trafficking and slavery through their work here in the U.S. and all over the world.

This past year, my husband, Verick Burchfield, and I, residents of Kansas City and owners of Homestead on the Hill, LLC, had a vision to raise $100,000 for Hope for Justice; we knew we couldn’t do it alone. Hundreds of local and long-distance friends joined with Young Living leaders to participate in our efforts to increase funding and awareness.

Through events, an online auction, a backyard Home Experience with Grammy®-nominated artist Brandon Heath and a KC marathon run by Verick, we raised more than $74,000 for Hope for Justice. Just when it looked like we would fall short of the goal, our work helping facilitate a partnership with Hope for Justice and the generous Young Living Foundation, created by founder D. Gary Young, came to fruition. Young Living is a purpose-driven company that sets an example for all by using its abundance to change the world. The members raised more than $1 million for the YL Foundation in just four days during the most recent convention. One hundred percent of the donations will go to causes all over the world, including Hope for Justice. This partnership helped us feel confident that we would more than surpass our goal, proving that working hard to achieve ambitious goals pays off.

Our work is far from over, and we will prayerfully work to continue to raise awareness and funds so that we can help the nearly 21 million men, women and children trapped in this inhumane way of life all over the world. We traveled to Cambodia in January to experience first hand the wonderful work that Hope for Justice is doing with their Lighthouse Assessment Center, Dream Home, Shine School and other programs. It was heart wrenching.

Unfortunately, you don’t have to travel across the world to find this atrocity lurking. One of Hope for Justice’s largest stateside projects is to establish a National Investigation Hub in Nashville, Tennessee, the home of the U.S. office. Here in K.C., we would like to increase education and awareness of what human trafficking is, what signs to look for, how you can help, and how you can protect your family in the world we live in. This education needs to go out to schools, churches, emergency rooms, clinics and urgent care centers first. HLM
