Time for preventive maintenance

  1.  Why is maintenance for your heating and cooling system so important?
  2. Your heating and cooling system is a major mechanical system and needs maintenance, just like your car does. Regular care promotes safety, efficiency, longevity and fewer repairs. Systems that are operating improperly can actually be harmful to you and your family. Keeping your system clean and running smoothly can also reduce energy usage, saving you money every time you use your system. In addition, well-maintained systems do not have to work as hard and will last longer than systems without regular care. Finally, regular maintenance reduces repairs and helps to identify issues before they become potentially big problems.

  1.  How do you know if it is time to replace or to simply repair?
  2. Replacing your heating and cooling system is a significant decision. Our technicians and comfort consultants are ready to walk you through it. Here are some helpful guidelines to get you started. Repair if your unit is less than 12 years old, if you have an efficient system (SEER rating greater than 13), or if the unit suffers from minor problems such as loose duct work, a clogged drain line or electrical problems. Replace if one of the core components, such as a blower motor, compressor or evaporator coil is broken, or if repairs cost more than 50 percent of the cost of a new unit. It’s also a good idea to replace if your unit has already had three or more major repairs. HLM
