Shelby & Austin

A solid friendship for many years and an early promise are the foundation that Shelby and Austin Schultz have built for a marriage that will last long beyond what they ever dreamed.

“It’s funny to think about the first time I met my husband,” laughs Shelby. “We probably did nothing more than glance at each other walking by. We had just started junior high school and we were adjusting to a larger school with more peers. Soon after school started, Austin and I became each other’s crushes, but most importantly, we became friends. It was in tenth grade when Austin told me he was going to marry me one day! Who would have thought at the time that it would become reality?”

Austin chose May 14, 2013, for his proposal to Shelby. “He asked me to dress up and said we were going to dinner somewhere we had never been, but the place was a surprise,” Shelby remembers. “I was beyond excited when we pulled up to the Melting Pot, since I had been asking him to take me there for months. We had such a nice, romantic dinner, and as we were finishing up dessert he said, “Shelby,” and since he never calls me that, it was when I knew what he planned. He stood up, then got on one knee and asked me to marry him. The best part was that he filmed it! Of course, I said ‘Yes!’”

The blissful couple tied the knot on October 9, 2014. Shelby’s sister, Shannon Behrens, served as Maid of Honor, and bridesmaids were Olivia Hatfield, Tamara Henderson, Aubrey Schultz and Nicole Tefft. Randall Giddens stood with Austin as Best Man; serving as groomsmen were Cody Behrens, Conor Behrens, Jeremy Garcia and Grant Hatfield. Kayla Behrens and Destiny Atencio were the precious flower girls, and Leo Vance was the ringbearer.

“Everything about our wedding day was so special,” Shelby and Austin agree. “It was filled with so much love and happiness, family and friends. We were very blessed to have so many wonderful people present to help us celebrate the beginning of our married life.”

Shelby and Austin spent a memorable honeymoon with both relaxation and excitement. “We started off in California, where we stayed at Hermosa Beach, right on the beach. It was so beautiful! We went to Disneyland, Universal Studios and Magic Mountain, and spent days with our feet in the sand watching the waves. Then we drove up the coastal highway, which was so wonderful. We ended our honeymoon in Las Vegas and stayed at the Stratosphere, which is where Austin bungee jumped! We ate good food, gambled and gambled some more. We had a blast and made so many memories!”
