JAMIE AND AARON

“I was living in Chicago, working nights as a nurse and trying to stay awake overnight so I could sleep during the day,” Jamie laughs. “I knew I wanted to relocate to Denver and was planning to move during summer 2014; this was in October 2013. I thought Aaron’s profile was really fun and upbeat, plus he was really good looking. But because my move was so far off I decided against writing him. The next night I was staring at his dimples and they were staring back so I decided to write him a short email. I’m a big Chicago Blackhawks fan and in his profile Aaron was wearing an Avs jersey holding the Stanley Cup. My email to him simply said, ‘What a good-looking cup! Glad it’s back in Chicago….AGAIN!’ That prompted a quick response and we started exchanging emails. A week after that the Hawks and Avs were playing and we decided to exchange phone numbers and text during the game. There was lots of taunting one another. Then texting daily turned into texting hourly turned into phone calls daily. I flew to Denver in January 2014 to meet Aaron in person for the first time. When I saw him in DIA, a most romantic setting, it struck me hard. I was in love with this man whom I was seeing for the first time. The rest is history. I moved to Denver in March 2014 and we’ve been having a blast since.”

Aaron’s proposal to Jamie on November 6, 2014, was a complete surprise to Jamie. “We bought a Vizsla puppy from a breeder in Utah and were driving to pick him up. Aaron thought it would be fun to stop in Park City for the night to break up the driving,” she shares. “When we got to Park City we stayed at the Stein Eriksen Lodge, very fancy, but he told me he got a Groupon! We spent the afternoon and evening enjoying the lodge; after an amazing dinner we went back to our room. When I opened the door I was confused because there was stuff all over the floor. I looked closer and realized it was rose petals. The fireplace was going and rose petals were in the shape of a heart on the table with a little blue box and a note. Then I knew what was happening so I started getting a little teary. The note was the sweetest from Aaron’s son, handmade with the best drawings which I will cherish forever. Aaron told me how he had fallen in love with me and asked me to be his wife. I said ‘Yes!’ It was really a great and special moment; I had no idea it was coming. Then Aaron came clean that our families were also in on the weekend events, which was fun, as we are both very close with our parents, whose marriages are examples of what we want our marriage to be.”

Jamie and Aaron have set their wedding date for September 25, 2015, at the Pines at Genesee in Golden, Colorado. “We’re planning a very low key, casual rustic wedding–fried chicken, cowboy boots and jeans!” reveals Jamie. “We’re looking forward to the first dance. It’s a surprise, but it will be anything but traditional because, as Aaron says big guys don’t have rhythm and can’t dance. By the way, Aaron is 6’6”!”
