Thai Spices of Lodi: Healthy Cuisine with a Thai twist

Central Valley residents looking for fresh and healthy dining options beyond the standard burgers and pizzas need look no further than Lodi’s Thai Spices restaurant on West Turner Road. Although the restaurant doesn’t provide typical fast food fare, this authentic Thai establishment has earned rave reviews as the place where diners get satisfying, tasty and healthy cuisine served up in a timely manner.

Thai cooking puts emphasis on lightly prepared dishes with strong aromatic components and a spicy edge. It is known for its complex interplay of at least three and up to five fundamental taste senses in each dish or the overall meal: sour, sweet, salty, bitter and spicy. Dishes at Thai Spices in Lodi are known for being fresh, authentic and affordable. Every meal demonstrates attention to detail as well as care given to the food’s appearance, aroma and ingredients.

Thai Spices offers a varied menu of delicious items ranging from appetizers to soups, salads, curries, noodle and rice dishes, entrees and more. Their cuisine is made using natural ingredients that are native to Thailand and which easily combine to entice the senses; taste, smell and texture meld together to create a unique flavor. Popular menu items include fresh spring rolls with shrimp, Spicy Eggplant, Filet Mignon, Green Curry with Beef, Thai Scampi sautéed in garlic sauce, Pad Thai or Pad Kee Mao, Jungle Curry, Pineapple Fried Rice, Rack of Lamb, Papaya Salad and Thai Barbecue Chicken.

Family Recipes
A native of Thailand, owner Bun Goble moved to the Central Valley area in 2004 and opened Thai Spices in 2007. For more than a decade, she has personally overseen menu preparation and cooking of culinary masterpieces that are pulled from her own family recipes. Bun also shares that her customer’s satisfaction is always a priority. “We have no problem adjusting our dishes to honor specific customer requests,” she noted. “We know most of our customers do not like super-spicy dishes so we make dishes that are flavorful but mild enough for everyone to enjoy.

“For those who do like some spice, we give the option of different levels of heat to choose from including mild, medium, hot and Thai Hot. Since every dish is made to order, we can cook it to a customer’s specifications. We prepare everything from fresh ingredients and use only organic vegetables in our recipes, unless organic isn’t available.”

Since the first day the doors of Thai Spices opened, Bun and her seven employees have stayed true to their vision of providing an exceptional dining experience for diners of all ages. Bun also agreed that the business’ customer service, paired with wholesome and flavorful foods, has played a big part in the longevity of the restaurant. Many of her wait staff and chefs have been with the business for nearly as long as it has been open, proof that appreciation on all levels is part of the business’ mission. “My staff is like my family. It is an honor to work with these people every day and I hope to be able to do so for many years to come.”

Bun’s passion for Thai Spices shines through in everything she does, including the fact that she refers to the business as “our house.” “I like being able to serve our customers healthy, authentic foods that will help them live a long life,” she affirmed. “My dad was my inspiration for cooking and his passion for feeding others in a healthy way is my passion.

“I love to take care of my customers and cook for them. My dad was that way as well. He taught me how to show love and passion through the food I prepare. My goal is to have all who visit my house leave with a full stomach and a smile on their face. Seeing the joy that our food brings to people is the best part of my day, every day.
