Indulge Your Mom!

By  0 Comments

Buying luxury items by subscription is no longer a novel retail concept. According to Fast Company, the subscription e-commerce industry grew from $57 million in sales in 2011 to $2.6 billion in 2016.

While early subscription services offered beauty products and clothes, now you can have everything from meal kits to razors automatically delivered to your door in a subscription box. If you’re looking for a unique way to pamper your mother on Mother’s Day and beyond, a luxury subscription could be the perfect choice, particularly if you live in a different city and can’t give a local gift.

Mostess
Founded in 2016 by Lindsey Rose King, the Mostess Box contains seasonally curated home products. Shipped quarterly, each box contains at least six home décor and hosting items that are related to a luxury experience theme. Six seasonal recipes are included along with a set of home styling and hosting tips. Aimed at women who don’t have the time or inclination to search for stylish items to update their home, the subscription costs $150 per box.

Your Bijoux Box
This jewelry subscription service dispatches monthly boxes with three pieces of jewelry and one bonus item. Box contents are selected around a theme, such as the pearl necklaces and earrings paired with a soft furry scarf for the December 2018 box. The subscription cost is $39.99 per month for items worth up to $250 per month. Subscribers who don’t have pierced ears can opt out of earring selections.

OuiPlease
If your mother’s a committed Francophile, she’ll love this French-themed subscription box. Launched by Paris native Jessica Barouche in 2014 after she moved to Texas and realized how many American women would like a little French style in their lives, the OuiPlease box delivers a curated selection of full-sized products from France. Each box has a theme that ties together a collection of authentic food and beauty products with jewelry, apparel and accessories. The box ships every other month for $150, or save with an annual subscription for $650. Individual boxes can be purchased for $165.

Robb Vices
The Robb Vices subscription box is described by Forbes as sending “unique products that create experiences for a more sophisticated lifestyle.” An offshoot of the Robb Report global luxury lifestyle magazine, the subscription service sends monthly boxes curated around a glamorous and sometimes decadent theme. The items focus on bringing out “the best in life” and may include fine spirits, handmade leather accessories, gourmet food and unique finds. A past box based on the theme Melted Romance included a fondue set, chocolate, massage oil and art supplies for a couple to create an erotic painting. The subscription price is about $390 for three monthly boxes.

BeautyFIX
There are dozens of beauty subscription boxes available, but BeautyFIX from Dermstore consistently stands out in reviews. Each month, a group of beauty experts chooses an assortment of six or more full- and travel-size skin, hair care and makeup products valued at $100. A monthly subscription costs $24.95; single boxes are available for $34.95 and usually sell out quickly. Dermstore was founded by a group of dermatologists in 1999 and has been a Target company since 2013.

Cloth & Paper
Writing supplies get the luxe treatment in the subscription box from stationery company Cloth & Paper. A couple of different boxes and price points are available. The Penspiration Box, at about $16 per month, includes a collection of four to six specialty pens and pencils. The Planner Stationery Box comes with six to eight lifestyle, planner and stationery items from merchants such as Rifle Paper Company and Tools to LiveBy. It costs about $30 per month. You can also get both boxes combined for about $40 monthly.

SweatStyle
Whether Mom does yoga, is an avid runner or just likes to be comfy on the couch, SweatStyle has a box for her. After filling out a SweatStyle Profile about her activities and color and fabric preferences, she’ll receive a customized box full of comfortable tops, sweatpants, hoodies, leggings and other fitness-oriented apparel. The Premium Box is a curated and customized mix of high-end items with a retail value between $400 and $500. Subscribers keep and pay for the items they want and return the rest. The Value Box works the same way except subscribers choose from past seasons’ styles at a discount of 15 to 50 percent.

With the subscription box market booming, there are plenty of luxury subscription boxes available. To find the perfect choice for your mom, visit cratejoy.com, a leading marketplace for subscription services. The site researches new subscriptions and regularly updates their listings. Cratejoy community members then review and rate services they’ve tried. Their ratings and comments can be helpful when you’re looking for a high-value subscription service.
